Daraga (Albay)

Daraga can be found in the province of Albay in the Bicol region. It lies on the foot of Mt. Mayon and is the home to famous historical sites in the region, including the Cagsawa Ruins. These are the remains of the 16th-century Franciscan Church that was destroyed during an eruption of Mount Mayon. The area is now a protected park site. 

Aside from the Cagsawa Ruins, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Porteria, also known as Daraga Church, sits on a hill overlooking the Mayon Volcano and showcases stunning Baroque architecture. 

Lake Sebu (South Cotabato)

Lake Sebu is a municipality in South Cotabato, Mindanao. It is one of the Philippines’ most important watersheds, as well as a provider of irrigation in Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato. It covers more than 42,000 of land hectares and is packed with abundant forests, mountains, and stunning lakes. 

It is one of the best tourist spots in Mindanao that even the Filipinos themselves flock to. It is a UNESCO-recognized cultural landscape and is the home to South Cotabato’s indigenous tribes, like the T’bolis, Manobos, and Tirurays. 

Silay City (Negros Oriental)

Located in the Bacolod Metropolitan area in Negros Oriental is Silay City, 15 kilometers away from Bacolod City. Silay is named the “Paris of Negros.” It is a cultural and intellectual hub to cultural shows, events, and heritage houses. Over 30 Silay heritage homes have been announced Silay National Historic Landmarks by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and definitely a location where the name beautiful towns in the Philippines fit.

If you’ve been planning on visiting Baguio City, we highly recommend visiting the Colors of StoBoSa of Benguet. It is a small neighborhood in La Trinidad, a municipality packed with mountains, springs, and strawberry plantations. StoBoSa (StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork) is completely different from the traditional Philippine countryside. 

Historically, StoBoSa are homes on top of a green hill. Later on, the Tam-awan Village group fixed and painted the houses and it eventually became a stunning work of art. The colorful housing complex can be found along the Halsema Highway. This is a wonderful stopover on your way to Baguio City or stays on one of the nearby bed-and-breakfasts, cabins, and homestays. 

Sagada (Mountain Province)

Sagada is undeniably one of the most tourist destinations in the Mountain Province of the Cordillera Administrative Region, North Luzon. In fact, the whole Mountain Province is filled with natural sceneries like valleys, waterfalls, mountains, rice fields, caves, and cliffs. 

In Sagada, one of its famous attractions is the hanging coffins, a burial tradition followed by the Igorot tribe that dates back 2,000 years ago. To date, the hanging coffins can still be found in places like the Lumiang Cave. 

Other notable attractions are Sumaguing Cave and Bomod-ok Falls, Echo Valley, Kapay-aw Rice Terraces, Marlboro Hills, and Mt. Kiltepan. There’s no need to worry about accommodation since there are hostels, homestays, bed-and-breakfasts, and boutique hotels.

Vigan’s charm comes from its cobblestone streets, heritage houses and architecture, and traditional cuisines. Vigan’s old town also has some of the best-preserved colonial-style houses in Asia. Batanes

It is a famous place if you are looking for an escape from the city and immerse yourself in some fresh air.
